In this time of pet food recalls, it’s important to choose safe products for your canine or feline baby. The dog, puppy and cat food that was tainted contained a chemical called melamine. Melamine is used in plastic counter tops and fertilizers, but it was found in wheat gluten and rice protein made in China. It’s not that buying pet products from overseas is bad, but there has to be vigilance on the part of the owner and quality control from the animal food manufacturer.

We feed our pets Life’s Abundance pet food. Life’s Abundance is a veterinarian-formulated, holistic pet food made with human-quality ingredients. This wonderful pet food is made with the exclusive “fast-cook” process which locks in natural flavors and nutrition. No recalls and pet-safe!

There are many kinds of dogs to choose from. Vital things to take into consideration are your lifestyle, your hobbies and your present and future situation. You have to take into account the distinction between raising a dog from young pup hood and getting it as an adult dog.

Do you want a pet or a show dog or a male or a female dog? What are the benefits in having a small dog? They may not need a large space but small dogs still need room to exercise. Think about whether you would like a crossbreed, or a purebred. Always, carefully check out the breeder or any other place where you are considering getting your new dog.

Should I get a puppy or an adult?

Dog training teaches your dog how to behave and identifies any minor problems your dog might need work on. A trained dog is a happy dog, as is the owner. Dog training is all about properly communicating with a dog, and while it takes around seven to eight weeks to train an older dog, young pups can be trained in as little as two to three weeks.

Dog behavioral problems can be resolved through effective training methods coupled with patience and understanding on the part of the trainer. There is no need for physical discipline or strong language in order to adequately train your dog. There are many methods that make training a fun time for you and your dog. There are also trainings to make the dog useful for particular tasks such as guide dog for the blind, rescue dogs, hunting dogs and many more.

If you, or a family member, received a kitten as a Christmas present there are many things you need to think about.

It is essential that you take the time to really consider whether or not you should neuter your cat. Because there are so many strays and so few homes for them, it is wise to really take the time to make sure that if you are going to keep your pet natural that you should keep him from reproducing.

Many of the feral cats out there are those that pet owners released simply because they could no longer care for them. A colony of them can easily spread diseases to pet cats and even dogs. Even when they are healthy they are often infested with fleas. Females that are in heat the colony of cats can cause quite a disturbance with all the crying and even fighting. Cats that are hungry can get into trash cans, ruin furniture on your patio and dig in soil in your flower beds.

Most pet owners do not think twice about spending big dollars to buy their dog premium dog food, the best health care or even blissful days at a doggie day care facility. Most pet owners also don’t think twice when it’s time to give Bowser a bath. Grab the Head and Shoulders and fire up the backyard garden hose. But lets give it a bit more thought than that.

But a proper dog bath is key to maintaining your pet’s vigorous good health. The skin is the body’s largest organ and a perfect dog bath is key to stimulating blood circulation and keeping the skin healthy. Improper bathing can cause a matted condition in the coat which is uncomfortable to your dog. The first step in the perfect dog bath is a good brushing.

It is highly important that dogs be fed regularly, on a schedule, rather than have the food available for them on a self feeding basis. There are many good reasons for this. For one thing, this is the best thing for their digestion and can help you to be aware of the health of your pet. Dogs who go off their feed are recognized more quickly when the feeding is done on a regular schedule and not “on demand”.

Also, feeding dogs on demand does not allow for a period of rest for their digestive systems. The digestive juices within a dogs stomach are stimulated by the sense of smell, thus if a dog is constantly exposed to the smell of his food, even though he may not be eating it and it is just there for him 24/7, his stomach does not have a chance to rest.

Training a non-aggressive approach when around food is also important and this can not be done successfully unless you are the one to offer the food to the dog and thus can control his eating. When a dog is eating, you will be present and can train him to allow people to approach his food bowl. It is a good idea to pick his food bowl up while he is eating, stir your hand around in it, then set it back down. Occasionally you can also add a small tidbit of something special. this will teach your dog not to bite the hand that feeds him (or anyone else’s hand).
